Johannesburg learner joins Yale scholars programme

Grade 10 learner Tsebo Mofokeng, based in Johannesburg, has been selected for the 2026 Yale Young African Scholars Programme.
She attends UCT Online High School and will join students from across Africa for the programme, hosted by Yale University in the United States.
The programme brings together high school learners selected for academic performance, leadership potential, and community involvement, with thousands of applicants competing for limited places from more than 40 countries.
Tsebo will take part in an intensive academic and leadership development experience alongside peers from 42 countries.

Mpumalanga relaunches Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign

The Mpumalanga Education Department has launched the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign at Mahushu Agricultural School, aimed at encouraging communities to take greater responsibility for local schools.
The initiative, which means “Love Your School,” brings together businesses, community members and other stakeholders to repair infrastructure and improve maintenance at schools.
Officials say the campaign focuses on creating safer and more supportive learning environments for learners across the province.
Mpumalanga Education MEC Lindi Masina says the programme is designed to strengthen community involvement in education:

Zakes Bantwini launches empowerment foundation

Grammy Award-winning artist Zakes Bantwini has launched the Zakes Bantwini Foundation.
The foundation, launched earlier this week, runs programmes supporting women, youth and emerging creatives through mentorship, skills training and access to industry opportunities in music, sport, and the arts.
Planned initiatives include EmpowerHER Workshops for women in creative industries, a Youth Talent Incubator under Mayonie Productions, and a Business of Music Summit focused on publishing, marketing, and monetisation.
It will also introduce a Creative Arts Festival, a Sports Leadership Academy, and digital media training programmes for young people.

Madonna, Shakira and K-pop group BTS will headline the half-time show at this year’s World Cup final in New Jersey on 19 July.
Shakira is also releasing the tournament’s official World Cup song today.
Madonna is set to release her 15th studio album in July, while BTS will perform during their 85-day world tour following a three-year break for military service.
Organisers say the show will feature a Super Bowl-style entertainment spectacle at the final.
