Investec Applies to Trade Power

JSE listed International Banking Group, Investec has applied to South Africa’s energy regulator NERSA for a licence to trade electricity. If approved, the bank will buy solar power from the Illikwa Solar PV Facility in the Free State and supply its Sandton headquarters via Eskom’s transmission network using a wheeling arrangement. The system will allow Investec to access clean energy without owning power lines. This will allow the bank to buy from multiple renewable sources and sell to various clients through Corporate Power Purchase Agreements.
