City of Ekurhuleni Invests in Major Road Upgrades

Ekurhuleni has begun rolling out an ambitious road rehabilitation campaign, committing R285 million to citywide pothole repairs and R50 million to the Sivala Ama-pothole blitz.
The city's use of hot mix asphalt ensures stronger, longer-lasting roads with fewer maintenance issues.
Already underway, the initiative includes road marking, traffic sign installations, and stormwater drainage improvements to enhance daily commutes.
Since the start of the financial year, 506km of roads have been maintained, with another 241km set for upgrades before June's end.

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape sends best wishes to more than 37,000 candidates writing their May/June National Senior Certificate and Senior Certificate exams this week.

DA education spokesperson Leon van Wyk praised learners for taking this brave step to improve their results or complete their schooling, highlighting the importance of these exams for their futures.

He also commended the Western Cape Education Department for well-organised exams across 165 centres and 54 subjects, and for supporting learners through the Second Chance Matric Support Programme with free tutoring and study materials.

The DA urged families, educators, and communities to keep encouraging learners throughout the exam period, reaffirming its commitment to education and opportunity in the province.

The Grove Mall Celebrates Nurses with Surprise Gifts on International Nurses Day

To mark International Nurses Day on 12 May, The Grove Mall surprised frontline nurses at Die Wilgers Hospital in Tshwane with 500 gift bags as a token of appreciation for their vital role in South Africa’s healthcare system.

Nurses, who make up 56% of healthcare providers in the country, received bags filled with movie tickets, vouchers, snacks, and beauty samples, with 50 nurses lucky enough to get a vanity case for their next holiday.

Julie-Anne Claassen, General Manager at The Grove Mall, described the visit as a heartfelt way to recognise the quiet strength of nurses, while nursing manager Ivan Meyer said it was a special moment to feel truly appreciated.

For a brief time, the carers became the cared for, reminding everyone of the dedication nurses show every day.
