A Zero Waste to Landfill programme, Adopt-A-Community, has been launched in Soweto to tackle illegal dumping and promote responsible waste management. The initiative brings together ward leaders, businesses, waste collectors, community groups, and the City of Johannesburg to encourage recycling and cleaner neighbourhoods. Founder Duduzile Ntuli says the project aims to address persistent illegal dumping sites and foster sustainable waste practices. As part of the programme, the BinPack app was introduced to support recycling, create a circular economy, and provide opportunities for local businesses and waste collectors.

Young members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Pathfinders took to the streets of Newlands in Johannesburg yesterday marching together to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Area coordinator Delight Major explained that, as the church is new to the area, they felt it was important to host an anti-drug campaign to support and engage the community.The march also highlighted other social challenges such as crime, violence, mental health struggles like depression, and the impact of broken families. At the same time, the young participants promoted messages of unity, hope, peace, and community support.

The community of Roosevelt High School came together on Friday for a heartfelt cancer shavathon, showing solidarity while honouring the memory of fellow student **Ethan Huntley**, who passed away after battling cancer. Held during break time, learners gathered to spray or shave their hair in support of cancer awareness and to raise awareness for the Cancer Association of South Africa. The initiative served as a tribute to Ethan and highlighted the importance of supporting those affected by cancer.
