New Heart Unit Boosts Care for Free State Children
Story 2
Children with serious heart conditions in the Free State will now be able to access specialised treatment closer to home following the opening of a new Paediatric Cardiology Catheterisation Laboratory at Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein.
The facility is the first of its kind in the province and will perform advanced heart procedures for children with congenital and acquired heart disease.
It is expected to ease pressure on families by reducing the need for treatment in other provinces and will serve patients from the Free State, Northern Cape and Lesotho.
Free State Health HOD Ernest Mohlahlo says the new unit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery across the province.

Story 3

The Earth and Beyond Science Fair at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens brought together learners from across the city to showcase science projects focused on real-world challenges.
Organisers said the fair was about encouraging curiosity, problem-solving and innovation, with a strong focus on learning through experience rather than competition alone.
Environmental sustainability stood out among the top projects, including ideas around waste-to-energy solutions and other climate-focused innovations.
A team from Riverlea High School took first place, followed by Roosevelt High School learner Oluwatomish Akerele in second, and Felicia Karume in third for a project converting solid waste into electric power.
