Play Support Reaches 675 Centres

The DO MORE FOUNDATION and Kids Collab are providing outdoor play equipment and training to 675 under-resourced early childhood development centres across South Africa as part of a Mandela Day campaign.
The “67 Minutes of Play” initiative will deliver Move & Play kits containing balls, cones, beanbags and other resources to help children take part in daily activities.
ECD practitioners will also receive training on using the equipment to support children’s physical, social, and learning skills.
The programme will begin rolling out in August.

Rivonia Opens New Sports Facility

Rivonia residents now have access to a new multi-sport facility after an unused rooftop parking area at Rivonia Central was converted into courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball.
The facility opened on Saturday and is already being used by children, families, and sports players for training sessions, matches, and community events.
Around 40 to 50 children can attend basketball sessions at the venue every Friday, alongside adult players who use the courts.
The facility is open to the wider community, providing residents with a new space to take part in sport and recreation.

Thusong Youth Centre in Alexandra has recognised 60 children who completed its Holistic Wellness and Fitness Project.
The children received awards after months of training and participation in dance, judo and squash activities.
Top performers earned trophies and belts for their achievements in competitions.
The centre says it plans to expand the programme to support more young people in the community.

The 43rd Knysna Oyster Festival has wrapped up after 10 days of sport, food and family entertainment that attracted thousands of visitors to the Garden Route.
Festivalgoers boosted local businesses, with restaurants, accommodation providers, shops and tourism operators benefiting from increased spending.
Last year's festival injected about R41 million into the local economy and created more than 1,000 temporary jobs.
Organisers say the event continues to support local businesses, charities and community initiatives.
