Leaders, researchers, policymakers and environmental experts from across the continent are meeting in Pretoria this week for the 2026 Africa Clean Air Forum.
The four day gathering is focused on finding practical ways to reduce air pollution, improve public health and attract investment for cleaner and healthier cities across Africa.
The forum is also showcasing new technologies, including artificial intelligence, air quality monitoring and forecasting tools, to help African countries better manage pollution and protect communities.
Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Bernice Swarts says clean air is a fundamental human right and has called for stronger regional cooperation through South Africa's G20 commitments.

Nal'ibali, in partnership with Dlala Tata, recently hosted a Men's Literacy Imbizo workshop in Khayelitsha where young men received practical training and resources to establish community reading clubs.
The workshop encouraged fathers, brothers, uncles and other male role models to create safe spaces where children and families can enjoy reading together while using storytelling to strengthen relationships and inspire a love of books.
The initiative aims to empower more men to become literacy champions in their homes and communities.

South Africa's Kruger National Park has been ranked among the world's top 10 birdwatching destinations in a new global study by AllClear Travel Insurance.
The study assessed 115 birdwatching hotspots across six continents using factors including bird species diversity, notable species, accessibility, climate and travel costs. Kruger secured tenth place, making it one of only four African destinations in the global top 10.
Home to more than 500 bird species, Kruger National Park is recognised as one of Africa's premier birdwatching destinations, attracting visitors from around the world throughout the year.
