Douglasdale CPF launches Mandela Day School Shoe Drive

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum is inviting residents in the Douglasdale Police Station precinct to join hands this Mandela Day, by donating new or gently worn school shoes for children in need.

The CPF In partnership with the National Children and Violence Trust has launched the ‘Walk the Walk with Us’ Mandela Day School Shoes Campaign,
in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy and the spirit of Ubuntu by ensuring that no child is left behind.

CPF public relations officer Freda Boiles is encouraging residents, schools, faith-based organisations, and local businesses to take part in the initiative that aims to ensure that children can walk into school with dignity, confidence, and hope.

Donations can be dropped off at the Douglasdale SAPS C-S-C Centre, with the collection drive running until the 16th of July.

Cape Town Cruise Terminal sets new benchmark for 2024/25 season

Cape Town's Cruise Terminal at the V&A Waterfront experienced a record-breaking cruise season for 2024/25, which saw 83 ship calls, Eleven of which were inaugural visits.

The recent figures are a major increase from last season, which saw 67 ship visits.
The highest number of ship visits in a single month for the past season, were recorded in March, with 22 cruise liner visits.

Passengers are predominantly from the UK, the US and countries from the Mediterranean region.

The City of Cape Town says every cruise ship arrival is an economic opportunity - not just for the City, but for communities across the metro.

Meta Plans Multi-Billion-dollar AI Infrastructure rollout in the US

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg says the social media giant will spend hundreds of billions of dollars on building huge AI data centres in the US, with the first multi-gigawatt centre, expected to come online in 2026.

Meta has invested heavily in efforts to develop what it called "superintelligence" - technology that it said could out-think the smartest humans.
The company, which has made most of its money from online advertising, generated more than $160bn in revenue in 2024.

Zuckerberg says Meta is building several multi-gigawatt clusters, and that one cluster, could scale up to five gigawatts over several years.
