New insect species have been named after SANParks and Richtersveld National Park, in recognition of the park's support for research and conservation.
Entomologists Dr Massimo Meregalli and Dr Roman Borovec discovered a new flightless weevil in the Armmanshoek Valley.
They surveyed soil insects in an area not previously studied and identified multiple new species.
One genus and species, Richtersveldiella sanparkensis, lives beneath shrubs, emerges mostly at night, and marks the first species formally named after SANParks and Richtersveld National Park.
