Planned Maintenance Strengthens Johannesburg’s Water Supply
Story 1
Johannesburg Water says supply from the Zuikerbosch system is gradually returning following a 48-hour outage.
The interruption is part of Rand Water’s planned maintenance, designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of the city’s water network.
The work will take place in three phases until 8 January, with the first phase already completed and the next scheduled for 19 to 21 December.
Residents may experience reduced pressure during the upgrades, and Johannesburg Water has deployed tankers to ensure continued access.
The maintenance is expected to strengthen the system, helping secure a more stable water supply for the metro in the months ahead.

The University of KwaZulu Natal Student Representative Council has launched its 2026 SRC Trust Fund fundraising campaign to support students who cannot afford registration fees.
The fund aims to prevent financial exclusion, particularly among self funded students who do not receive NSFAS support.
Money raised will be administered through the UKZN Foundation and paid directly into approved students’ accounts to cover registration costs.
The SRC says demand for assistance is growing, with more than 2,000 students applying for support in 2025, and numbers expected to rise next year.
The campaign will run throughout the year, with the SRC calling on alumni, businesses and the public to contribute.
