Cosmo City Primary No 1 School recently hosted a play festival to promote literacy and learning, organised by Sesame Workshop International South Africa and Book Village.
The event featured interactive stations, including reading corners, language games, dance, phonics activities, and listening exercises, benefiting 89 Grade R learners and 376 Grade 1 learners.
Mari Payne, deputy managing director at Sesame Workshop South Africa, said the festival supports early literacy, which is crucial as many South African children struggle to read for meaning by Grade 4.
Through engaging, playful activities, the partnership aims to foster a lifelong love of reading and empower learners with strong literacy skills.
