New Sports Facility Opens At Evaton School

Deputy Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Peace Mabe has handed over a new multipurpose sports facility at ED Mashabane Secondary School in Evaton, Gauteng.
The government school now has a combi court for soccer, basketball, netball, volleyball and tennis, as well as an outdoor gym and children’s play area.
Sports equipment, apparel and books were also given to three schools in the area.
The development gives children greater access to sporting opportunities and a chance to discover talents they may not otherwise have the opportunity to explore.

Rural Festival Helps Young Writers Tell African Stories

The fifth Funda Mpondo International Literary Festival has been held in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, celebrating African storytelling and promoting indigenous languages.
Held during Heritage Month, the festival encourages writers from remote rural areas to continue telling African stories and helps emerging authors get their work published.
Through rural based Kwazithina Publishers, hundreds of people have taken part, with some learners becoming published authors while still in high school.
The festival’s founder and executive director, Nomawele Njongo, says its aim is to preserve African stories

South African Conservation Leader Named Obama Foundation African Leader

South African conservationist Rifumo Mathebula has been selected as one of the Obama Foundation’s 2026 African Leaders.
Mathebula grew up in a rural community near Kruger National Park and was introduced to wildlife photography through Wild Shots Outreach.
He is now the organisation’s Programme Director, helping young people from disadvantaged communities connect with nature and develop skills through photography and conservation.
As part of the programme, Mathebula will receive leadership training and work with emerging leaders from across Africa.
