About 500 student entrepreneurs, academics, investors and industry leaders gathered in Boksburg for the 2026 EDHE Absa Studentpreneurs Indaba.
The two day event focused on helping students turn their ideas and innovations into viable businesses, jobs and economic opportunities.
Students also connected with mentors, investors and industry partners through workshops, pitch sessions and exhibitions.
The organisers urged universities to provide stronger support for student businesses from development to growth.

Nal’ibali Wins International Literacy Prize

South African literacy organisation Nal’ibali Trust has won the 2026 Library of Congress International Literacy Prize and 50-thousand US dollars.
The award recognises more than a decade of work making reading for pleasure accessible to children across South Africa, including through stories and literacy resources in the country’s official written languages.
Nal’ibali also provides stories through print, audio and digital platforms, while working with partners to expand access for deaf and blind children.

Soweto Runner Takes On Rhino Peak Challenge

Endangered Wildlife Trust accountant Njabulo Mthabela will take on the Rhino Peak Challenge in the Maloti Drakensberg Park on 19 September to raise funds for rhino conservation.
The Soweto born runner is one of about 50 participants taking on the challenge, with each aiming to raise R22,000.
The event has raised more than R10 million for conservation projects over the past decade, supporting rhinos, vultures and cranes.
