Teen Completes Chicago Marathon Less Than A Year After Spinal Injury
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Seventeen year old Wyatt Anderson completed the Chicago Marathon in three hours, 56 minutes and 28 seconds, less than a year after a spinal cord injury left him paralysed from the neck down.
The Kentucky high school learner fractured his spine in a basketball accident in November 2025 and underwent surgery, followed by months of rehabilitation to regain his mobility.
Inspired by a story he heard during physical therapy, Anderson set himself the goal of completing a marathon within a year.
He ran alongside his brother, Jack, and together they raised more than 24,000 dollars, approximately R425, 000, for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which supports people affected by spinal cord injuries.
