              UJ honours poet Antjie Krog with honorary doctorate

              The University of Johannesburg has awarded an honorary doctorate to acclaimed poet and academic Antjie Krog for her outstanding contributions to literature, language, and public thought. 
The degree was conferred during a Spring Graduation ceremony, where Krog performed a heartfelt poetry reading reflecting on success, hard work, and resilience.
Krog’s five-decade career includes thirteen volumes of poetry, translations of Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom, and work that has been translated into over eight languages.
UJ praised her for breaking down barriers through language, activism, and creative courage, inspiring new generations of writers, scholars, and thinkers.

              Supreme Court clears way for pharmacist-led HIV treatment programme

              The Supreme Court of Appeal has upheld the Pharmacist-Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy (PIMART), dismissing an appeal that sought to halt the initiative. 
The South African Pharmacy Council says the ruling confirms the programme’s essential role in expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment.
Trained pharmacists will provide services including HIV testing, PrEP, PEP, and first-line ARVs, helping reduce the burden on healthcare facilities and improve life expectancy for millions.
PIMART is expected to play a key role in achieving national HIV targets and supporting South Africa’s ongoing fight against the epidemic.
