South Africa excels at African Tang Soo Do Championship in Kyalami

South African martial artists dominated the 24th African Tang Soo Do Championship, winning 45 medals and three trophies.
The event, held from October 3 to 5 at Beaulieu Sports and Wellness Centre in Kyalami, featured 160 athletes from Botswana, Mozambique, Seychelles, and South Africa.
Top performers included Nicole Burgers, who won the Adult Female Dan black belt title, Jan Bezuidenhoudt, who claimed the Senior Male Cup for colour belts, and Mohammed Modou Ndiaye, crowned Senior Male Dan black belt champion.
The championship also included leadership seminars and black belt grading, and concluded with a family picnic celebrating unity, discipline, and achievement.

Basic Education confirms readiness for 2025 matric exams

The Department of Basic Education says it is fully prepared for the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations, which start on 21 October and run until 27 November.
More than 700 000 Grade 12 learners will sit for the final exams after twelve years of hard work. The department says all provinces have finalised invigilation rosters, venue security, and logistics for both rural and urban centres.
Umalusi has approved the examination process, calling it robust and well-planned.
The department says the exams not only test academic achievement but also the system’s ability to deliver a fair and secure national assessment.
