ECD centres join financial literacy programme

Early Childhood Development centres across the country are being encouraged to join Sandton Fun Factory’s early childhood financial literacy programme aimed at teaching money skills from a young age.
The programme trains teachers to introduce basic concepts such as saving, earning, budgeting and banking to children aged three to six.
It has already reached around 600 ECD centres nationwide through a partnership with Discovery Bank and about 20-thousand children since its launch in 2023.
The initiative recently received international recognition, including the Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award from the Institute for Financial Literacy in America.

University of Venda promotes biogas energy initiative

The University of Venda in Thohoyandou is helping rural Limpopo communities produce clean energy by converting cow dung and plant waste into biogas.
The initiative trains households to build and maintain digesters using locally available materials, aiming to reduce reliance on costly electricity and fossil fuels.
Teacher at Tiyani Secondary School, Samuel Manganyi, say the system also helps manage waste while improving access to energy for cooking and heating in off-grid areas:

Museum of Illusions opens in Durban

Durban has welcomed the opening of the Museum of Illusions at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, introducing more than 60 interactive exhibits to visitors in KwaZulu-Natal.
The museum blends science, art and entertainment through immersive installations designed to test perception and challenge the way people see reality.
The venue also offers space for birthdays, school outings and group events.
It will be open daily, with longer operating hours on weekends and public holidays.

UKZN athletes win KZN sports honours

Athletes from the University of KwaZulu-Natal have earned both provincial honours and national recognition at the 2026 KZN Sport Awards.
Zakithi Nene was crowned KZN Sportsman of the Year, while netball coach Precious Mthembu secured her second KZN Coach of the Year title.
The awards recognised achievements during the qualification period from 1 January to 31 December 2025.
UKZN Executive Director for Corporate Relations Normah Zondo praised the athletes for their exceptional performances and the inspiration they continue to provide.
