Mandela Foundation launches sporting series

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has launched the Mandela Legacy Sporting Series, bringing four sporting events under one programme.
The series includes the Mandela Day Walk and Run, Ride4Hope cycling event, the Nelson Mandela Cape Town Marathon, and the Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run.
Events will run from July to December 2026 across South Africa and neighbouring countries.

Nomusa Dube-Ncube opens Soweto coding centre

Deputy Higher Education Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube has launched a new coding and robotics centre at Igugu Primary School in Soweto.
The project is a partnership between iStore Education and iSchoolAfrica and aims to give township learners early access to digital and technology skills.
Government says the centre will equip learners and teachers with coding, robotics and other technology training linked to the digital economy.
The initiative is part of efforts to prepare young South Africans for future careers in fields including artificial intelligence, renewable energy and data science.

Padel players, sponsors and supporters gathered at Balwin Padel in Waterfall City for the official launch of the Premier Padel Pretoria P2 Tournament.
The event, held last week, gave local players an opportunity to take part ahead of the tournament, which is set for July 26 to August 2 at SunBet Arena.
Primedia Sport Vice President Tobie Badenhorst says the competition marks a significant moment for padel in South Africa.
He says the tournament forms part of the international Premier Padel circuit, featuring 28 events worldwide and widely regarded as the top tier of the sport.
