A new international study focusing on the best cities in the world to raise a family has been released.
The study which is conducted by Compare the Market AU, ranked cities around the world to determine the best places to raise a family in 2026, using 9 key data points that include safety, happiness, cost of living, family benefits, green spaces and education investment.
Three major South African cities, earned spots in the top 50 list, with Johannesburg ranked the highest locally at 41st place, followed by Cape Town in the 46th position and Durban at the 49th position.

The Santa Shoebox Project has welcomed the 200-thousand-rand donation from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Part of the money was raised through the V&A Waterfront’s December 2025 festive gift-wrapping initiative.

FNB to launch smart ID application services

First National Bank says it is on track to launch smart identity card application services at selected branches following successful testing with the Department of Home Affairs.
The service will allow citizens to apply for the re-issue of smart ID cards directly at bank branches, with plans to expand the offering to more than 240 branches over the next year.
FNB’s Zibu Nqala says the initiative forms part of a broader digital reform programme aimed at improving access to modernised identity services.
