Blanket Drive Brings Winter Warmth
Story 3
Blanket Drive Jozi has launched its sixth annual winter outreach campaign. The event kicked off with a donation drive at Melville's Hotel Hope last week. The non-profit organisation donated 70 blankets, 70 cases of canned food and other essential supplies to help vulnerable community members cope with the cold winter months. Founder Beven Naidu said the initiative has grown significantly since it began as a small effort among friends and family. What started with a goal of donating 50 blankets in its first year has expanded to 850 blankets, reflecting growing community support for the cause.
The campaign demonstrates the power of community kindness, with volunteers and donors coming together to provide warmth, food and hope to people in need during winter.

Protecting Ocean Guardians
Teaser / Tailpiece story
The Professional Association of Diving Instructors has launched a Global Shark and Ray Census alongside a new speciality diving course in Japan. PADI says sharks and rays are important indicators of ocean health but are declining due to targeted fishing and accidental capture in large fishing nets. To help protect them certified divers will collect and upload photographs and dive data through the PADI Aware app. The information will be analysed at the James Cook University in Australia to support shark and ray protection efforts worldwide.
The project empowers everyday divers to contribute to global conservation research, helping scientists and NGOs gather valuable data to better protect vulnerable marine species.
