Joburg City Power rolls out free basic electricity programme

Johannesburg City Power has rolled out a free basic electricity programme, which aims to provide eligible customers with free electricity units each month, as part of efforts to ensure inclusive access to electricity and to improve customer compliance.

A registration drive will run from the 17th of June to the 31st of July, with a target of registering 130,000 indigent customers.

The utility says once registered; eligible customers will receive 50 kilowatts per hour of electricity per month at no cost.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says pensioners, child-headed homes and people earning below average salary may apply.

Green Hydrogen to drive Africa's growth

The inaugural African Green Hydrogen Summit concluded in Cape Town yesterday.
The gathering aimed to emphasize the need for African leadership in establishing hydrogen corridors, to attract investment and boost intra-African trade.

The independent non-profit economic research institution for Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies, says South Africa’s ideal weather conditions for solar and wind-power generation, technological capabilities and access to platinum resources, place the country at an advantage for developing the hydrogen value chain and being a key supplier in the global hydrogen market.

President Ramaphosa underscored the role of the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance, which includes Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, and South Africa.

Peyton Connor qualifies for 2025 Dance World Cup in Spain

Cape Town dancer, Peyton Connor, has been selected for the South African Dance Team which is set to compete at the 2025 Dance World Cup in Spain.
The 14 year old has been a dedicated dancer since the age of 5 and is a member of K&J Dance Unlimited.

Some of Peyton’s notable achievements include winning first place in the A League Megacrew at Dancestar South Africa and winning first place at the Hip-Hop Megacrew Gold Division.

Peyton was also previously selected for the DanceStar World Finals in Croatia, the Talent Africa Finals in Serbia, and the SACOPA World Championships in the USA.
