The South African National Blood Service is calling on South Africans to donate blood this Mandela Day as part of their 67 minutes of service.
A single blood donation can help save up to three lives and support patients in hospitals across the country.
SANBS says donated blood helps emergency, maternity and surgical patients who need transfusions.
The service is encouraging more people, including first-time donors, to give blood and help maintain the national blood supply.

Grade 12 learner Arabella Molefi from Future Nation Schools in Fleurhof has been named South Africa’s top performer in the 2026 English Olympiad.
Molefi received a Diamond Award after achieving the highest national ranking in the competition.
The Olympiad tests learners’ language, comprehension and analytical skills.
Two other matric learners from the school also secured top national rankings in the competition.

Grade 9 learner Kian Gregoriou from Stirling High School in KuGompo has collected donations for EL Pet Pals animal shelter in the Eastern Cape.
Kian’s winter donation drive gathered two trolleys of dog food, treats and blankets, as well as R1,646 for the shelter.
The shelter cares for about 200 dogs and 80 cats, many of which rely on community support.
Kian’s initiative will help provide food and warmth for rescued animals during the winter months.
