These shelters provide safe homes for barn owls and spotted eagle owls, natural predators that can eat up to 1 000 rodents a year, helping control pests without chemicals.
Bat hotels offer vital roosting spaces for bats, which consume hundreds of insects per hour, including mosquitoes and crop pests.
RRVA’s initiative supports biodiversity, reduces pesticide use, and restores balance in the area’s ecosystem.
Residents are encouraged to learn more and get involved in protecting these important species.

The Wits Centre for Deaf Studies will host the 25th International Congress on the Education of the Deaf in 2030.
This global event, held every five years, brings together educators and experts to share research and improve learning for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Director Professor Claudine Storbeck says hosting the congress is a milestone for Deaf Education in Africa and will help promote equal opportunities.
