Wits to Host Global Deaf Education Congress in 2030

The Wits Centre for Deaf Studies will host the 25th International Congress on the Education of the Deaf in 2030.
This global event, held every five years, brings together educators and experts to share research and improve learning for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Director Professor Claudine Storbeck says hosting the congress is a milestone for Deaf Education in Africa and will help promote equal opportunities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Zeblon Vilakazi adds that Wits is proud to welcome the world and that the Centre’s work is transforming lives through research and teaching.
For nearly 30 years, the Centre has led efforts to train teachers and develop South African Sign Language, making a real difference across the country.
