Johannesburg theatres kick off the year with big productions

Johannesburg theatre lovers have a packed lineup this month, with shows including the hit musical CATS at the Teatro at Montecasino from January 17 to February 22.

Ethiopian-born perfusionist Mesfin Yana, who received life-saving heart surgery in Atlanta as a teenager, has returned to Ethiopia to perform surgeries alongside the same surgeon who treated him, Dr. Jim Kauten.
Now working at the Mayo Clinic, Mesfin operates the heart-lung machine and helps patients communicate with volunteer surgical teams.
He is taking part in charity missions through Heart Attack Ethiopia, providing care for children and adults in his home country.
