Head of the park’s Conservation Initiative, Monica Wiese, said the project was designed to monitor visitor movement, protect wildlife, and enhance overall safety. While initially focused on safeguarding flora, fauna, and controlled access, Beagle Watch quickly expanded to address wider security challenges affecting both the park and surrounding community.In a report compiled by Wiese, she noted unacceptable levels of littering, including glass bottles, plastic, wire fencing, and dog faeces, which pose risks to both the ecosystem and human health.

The Union for Jewish Women Johannesburg marked a milestone last week with its Sewing Empowerment School graduation at Oxford Schul. This year’s theme was Afrocentric Wedding Vibes. Since 2010, the programme has offered a four-month intensive course, equipping participants with sewing skills and small-business techniques to combat unemployment and poverty. Manager Ariane Heneck says students learn everything from sewing straight and unpicking garments, to reading and interpreting patterns, to mastering fabric cutting and garment construction.
