Johannesburg Celebrates Afrocentric Sewing Graduation

The Union for Jewish Women Johannesburg marked a milestone last week with its Sewing Empowerment School graduation at Oxford Shul. This year’s theme was Afrocentric Wedding Vibes. Since 2010, the programme has offered a four-month intensive course, equipping participants with sewing skills and small-business techniques to combat unemployment and poverty. Manager Ariane Heneck says students learn everything from sewing straight and unpicking garments, to reading and interpreting patterns, to mastering fabric cutting and garment construction.

Fixing roads in Sandton took centre stage as MMC Kenny Kunene led Operation Restore in Ward 91 before moving into Ward 103. The campaign targets road damage and failing storm water infrastructure.The Johannesburg Rods Agency teams patched potholes, carried out deep repairs, and cleared storm water inlets on key routes such as Katherine Street. More work is planned for Linden, Gary Drive, and nearby areas. Kunene said fast-forming potholes, especially during the rainy season, remain Sandton’s biggest challenge.

WBHO to Expand Cape Winelands Airport

The Cape Winelands Airport has announced the appointment of the construction company WBHO as it's main contractor for its eight-billion-rand expansion programme.This marks a major step in creating South Africa’s next-generation aviation hub.The project will include a new boutique terminal, upgraded runways, enhanced cargo and logistics operations and a modernised general aviation precinct. The airport’s Deon Cloete says the development could sustain over 100-thousand jobs in its initial 20 years of operation and boost tourism and investment in the Western Cape
