Mofolo Park Gets Fresh Start Through Community Clean Up

Soweto’s historic Mofolo Park is getting a new lease on life, following a community clean up organised by Soweto Tourism and local partners.
The initiative is the first step in a broader plan to restore and revitalise the park and its famous Dome, which has hosted performances, cultural events and community celebrations over the years.
Further improvements are now being explored, with businesses, creatives and community organisations encouraged to get involved and help restore the space for future generations.

Women’s Boxing Set for Historic Night in Cape Town

Some of South Africa’s top female boxers are set to take centre stage in Cape Town, with five women’s championship fights scheduled on a single boxing card.
The historic Fight Like a Woman event will feature Simangele Smash Hadebe taking on Owethu Rula for the vacant WBF world flyweight title, while South African lightweight champion Bonita van Jaarsveld will also defend her title.
The tournament is being promoted by Terry Anne Hart and is aimed at creating a bigger platform for female fighters as women’s boxing continues to grow in South Africa

Unisa Offers 10 Fully Funded Veterinary Medicine Places

Ten aspiring veterinarians could soon get the opportunity to study for free under a new partnership between Unisa and the University of Namibia.
The selected South African students will receive full funding for their six year veterinary medicine degrees, covering tuition, accommodation, travel and living expenses.
Once qualified, the graduates will return to South Africa, where they are expected to contribute to veterinary education, research and animal health.
Applications close on Saturday, 15 August.

Dogs Catch Waves at World Surfing Championship

Dogs of all shapes and sizes took to the waves at Pacifica State Beach in California on 2 August for the 10th World Dog Surfing Championships.
Around 15 canine surfers competed in front of hundreds of spectators, with judges scoring them on the length of their rides, the waves they caught and their confidence on the board.
Among the winners was local favourite Rippin’ Rosie, a five year old Labrador Retriever who picked up four first place awards.
The event has grown into a popular celebration of dogs, surfing and the special bond between pets and their owners.
