Lonehill Village Estate hosted its first-ever Domestic Workers Forum, bringing together law enforcement, community leaders, NGOs, and residents for a morning of awareness and empowerment.
The event was spearheaded by the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum and included members of SAPS, Sanca, the National Credit Regulator, and Boutique Security.
Key topics included personal safety, reporting abuse, child protection, and financial literacy.
Domestic workers were also given a safe space to ask questions, share experiences, and access support.
Organisers say the forum is an important step in equipping domestic workers with knowledge and resources while strengthening connections between the community and service providers.

The University of the Western Cape launched its Students on the Go campaign in collaboration with the MENstruation Foundation and the Clicks Helping Hand Trust.
The initiative, introduced during Women’s Month, aims to tackle period poverty on campus by providing students with free, quality menstrual products. Sanitary pad dispensers have been installed across key campus locations, giving students easy and discreet access to essential hygiene items.
Organisers hope the campaign will not only address practical needs but also create a safe space for open conversations about menstruation and break the stigma surrounding it. This programme is part of UWC’s broader commitment to student wellness and inclusion.
