Joburg programme to train 100 women as electric delivery riders
Story 1
A new programme in Johannesburg will train 100 women as electric delivery riders, creating access to jobs in a sector often dominated by men.
The Just Ride Initiative aims to improve women’s economic opportunities while supporting cleaner, low-emission urban transport.
Participants will receive training in electric bike use, road safety, and digital delivery systems to prepare them for work in the gig economy.
Organisers say the project will help reduce unemployment and promote inclusive growth in South Africa’s expanding delivery industry.

The Hugh Masekela Tribute Concert brought people together at the Joburg Theatre last week, to honour the father of South African jazz's music and legacy.
Musicians performed a four-day series of live shows celebrating his work.
Under musical director Sydney Mavundla, a full big band performed new arrangements and re-interpretations of Masekela’s music.
His daughter, Pula Twala, says the tribute reflects her father’s deep love for South Africa and its people, and the way his music always carried their stories and spirit:
