Hugh Tribute Closes Strong Four Day Run

The Hugh Masekela tribute concert has ended on a high after its four day run from 9 to 12 April at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.
The production brought together artists including Vusi Mahlasela, Judith Sephuma, Zoe Modiga and Tresor, delivering fresh takes on Bra Hugh’s timeless music.
The successful run gave Johannesburg audiences a rich celebration of jazz, heritage and storytelling, while helping introduce his legacy to younger listeners.

Sepedi Animal Farm Translation Boosts Classroom Access

A new Sepedi translation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm is set to improve access to learning and classroom debate for South African learners.
The book, translated by educationist Dr Lenkwane Henry Mathunyane and published by Nelson Mandela University Press, was launched at the Multilingualism Indaba held at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha from 25 to 27 March.
The translation aims to help learners engage more easily with themes of leadership, power and democracy in their home language, while strengthening the role of African languages in education. Educators say it supports more inclusive learning in schools.

Rescue teams thank public support after cliff operation in Cape Town

Wilderness Search and Rescue teams have thanked Woolworths and members of the public for their support following a night-time rescue in Cape Town where a German Shorthaired Pointer named Sable was saved from an 80 metre cliff at Hillcrest Estate.
The operation was carried out with the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services using a technical rope system.
WSAR says the support helped boost volunteers’ morale and highlighted strong teamwork during complex rescues. Sable has since recovered at home.
