The 67 Blankets for Mandela Day initiative will host a public exhibition at Steyn City on Saturday, showcasing handmade blankets created by community knitting groups that support people in need.
Founded by Carolyn Steyn, the movement brings together volunteers across South Africa who knit and crochet blankets for vulnerable communities, including outreach work that has extended into correctional facilities.
The programme has also provided rehabilitation opportunities, with participants in prisons using knitting projects to rebuild skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose through creative work.
The event will bring people together to share blankets, food, and activities in a space of connection and support.

Singer and songwriter, Holly Rey, visited diabetes care camps in rural Mpumalanga and Limpopo, meeting children living with Type-1 diabetes and observing gaps in access to treatment and support.
The camps provide medical care, education, and monitoring for children in underserved communities, where access to insulin and testing supplies is often inconsistent.
During the visit, healthcare volunteers and local coordinators documented cases of severe complications linked to limited treatment access, including hospital emergencies and long-term health damage.
Organisers are now calling for additional support to expand the camps and improve access to essential diabetes care across rural South Africa.

About 100 high school learners took part in SAICE Bridge Building and Aqualibrium competitions in Bloemfontein, applying Maths and Science to engineering and water-based challenges.
Teams built and tested models that explored real-world problems like structure stability and water systems.
Winners received prizes and qualification opportunities for national competitions.
