Learners Turn Compassion Into Action

Grade 10 learners from Michael Mount Waldorf spent a week putting compassion into action. This was during a community service camp at Genesis Hope in Port Shepstone last month. Pupils spent time caring for children awaiting adoption. They participated in after-school programmes, supported elderly people and visited safe play centres, providing support to children. Throughout Grade 10, learners were encouraged to give back through fundraising, school events and community initiatives.

Bears Bring Comfort to Young Patients

Ford Motor Company Africa and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund brought smiles to young patients at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg by donating 300 handmade bears on last week. The bears were made by Ford employees as part of the fund’s Mandela thon campaign, which encourages acts of service in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy. The cuddly companions will provide comfort and friendship to children receiving treatment. Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital CEO Nonkululeko Boikhutso said toys help remind children that they are still children, even while they are sick.

Running for Rhino Conservation

Endangered Wildlife Trust accountant Njabulo Mthabela is combining his love of running and nature to raise funds for rhino conservation through the 2026 Rhino Peak Challenge. Mthabela will join around 50 participants tackling the demanding challenge in the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site next week. The event raises money for important conservation projects supporting rhinos, vultures and cranes through the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Wildlife ACT and the Bearded Vulture Recovery Programme.
