Young legal minds shine at National Schools Moot Court

The 14th National Schools Moot Court competition is underway at the University of Pretoria, with preliminary rounds taking place toda.
Grade 10 and 11 learners from across South Africa are arguing cases in any of the 11 official languages before judges from the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court, and senior legal practitioners.
The competition promotes constitutional literacy and develops skills in advocacy, research, writing, and legal reasoning.
This year, participants focus on the constitutionality of school language admission policies, giving young South Africans a platform to engage with justice and human rights issues.

Limpopo honours top police officers at 2025 SAPS Excellence Awards

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba praised the province’s police officers for their dedication and professionalism at the 2025 SAPS Provincial Excellence Awards held at The Ranch Protea Hotel outside Polokwane. The ceremony recognised officers and civilian employees for exceptional service, discipline, and leadership.
Senior officials, including provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and SAPS deputy national commissioner Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, attended the event.
Hadebe led a moment of silence for officers who died in the line of duty and emphasised that true excellence combines integrity, professionalism, and compassionate leadership.
Senior officials, including provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and SAPS deputy national commissioner Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, attended the event.

South Africa and Nigeria strengthen science and innovation ties

South Africa and Nigeria have renewed their commitment to cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
Deputy Minister Nomalungelo Gina met Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner Alexander Temitope Ajayi in Pretoria to discuss implementing a bilateral agreement signed in 2001.
The partnership aims to boost research collaboration, technology transfer, and innovation projects, with a focus on renewable energy, health innovation, digital transformation, and space science.
Plans also include a Special Technology Envoy on Digital and Emerging Technologies to represent Africa globally.
Both countries say the collaboration will position Africa as an innovation leader and support technical visits, university research, and people-to-people exchanges.
