Young South African Earns Scholarship at International Day of the Girl Child Event

A young girl, Nkhumeleni Mukhethwa, received a full scholarship after showing courage at the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child event at Vodacom World in Midrand. Themed Her Future, Her Power, it brought together leaders promoting girls’ empowerment.

Artscape brings colour and creativity to Riversdale with Rural Outreach Project

The magic of theatre came alive in Riversdale as Artscape took its Rural Outreach Project to the Hessequa region with the vibrant production Kunstetreffers.
The two-day event, held at the Riversdale Civic Hall, showcased a mix of ballet, opera, hip-hop and African contemporary dance.
In partnership with local municipalities and the Western Cape Education Department, the initiative celebrates artistic talent in rural areas while giving young people practical experience in lighting, sound and stage management.
Artscape says the project is not only about performance but also about creating opportunities and jobs in the creative sector, proving that the arts are both alive and empowering.

20 Israeli hostages set for release from Gaza under ceasefire deal

Twenty Israeli hostages are being released from Gaza today, nearly two years after being abducted during the deadly October 7, 2023 attack.
The group includes soldiers, civilians, and festival-goers taken from kibbutzim and the Supernova music festival.
The first seven hostages were handed over to the Red Cross this morning. Under the ceasefire, Israel is also due to release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including security detainees.
The exchange brings relief and hope to families on both sides and marks a positive step toward easing tensions in the region.
