Cape Town waddles to save the endangered African penguin
Story 2
Hundreds took part in the Waddle for a Cause in Simon’s Town on Saturday, raising awareness about the endangered African penguin.
The 4km walk from Long Beach to Seaforth Beach marked African Penguin Awareness Day and was organised by the Two Oceans Aquarium with partners Guardians of the Deep and SANCCOB.
The event highlighted the species’ sharp population decline to fewer than 10 000 breeding pairs. Organisers say public support is vital to protect the only penguin species found on South Africa’s southern coastline and a key part of the tourism and education sectors.
