Mining leaders say partnerships and collaboration are key to growing South Africa’s mining industry.
Speaking at the 13th annual Joburg Indaba in Sandton on last week, the indaba’s chairperson, Bernard Swanepoel, called for a renewed sense of purpose in addressing the sector’s challenges.
At the same time executives from Implats, Sibanye-Stillwater, and Valterra Platinum agreed that greater collaboration and policy alignment are essential to unlock investment and growth in the sector.

5-bright young South Africans will represent the country at the 2025 FIRST Global Challenge taking place from 29 October to 1 November.
The team will go against 190-countries in a robotics challenge, in Panama City.
The theme, Eco Equilibrium, will challenge teams to do something good – design and programme robots that can help protect the planet’s biodiversity.
The Spring-Bots, founded in 2018 by a group of passionate learners, have evolved into a movement, transforming STEM education for kids in schools.

Transnet National Ports Authority signs public-private partnership agreement

Transnet National Ports Authority has signed a public-private partnership agreement to increase the capacity of a Liquid Bulk Terminal at the Port of Cape Town.
The initial investment of over R195-million, will enable greater capacity for storage and distribution of fuel for, among others, international shipping, fishing and agriculture.
The Authority says it is well on track to stabilise ports and create an enabling environment for growth.
