Dutch–SA artist Marlene Dumas showcases work at Louvre Museum
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Dutch–South African artist Marlene Dumas has made history becoming the first contemporary woman artist to have her work added to the Louvre Museum's permanent collection.
She joins the same halls that house the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.
Louvre president Laurence des Cars commissioned the works as part of an effort to diversify the museum’s collection and give greater recognition to women artists.
Earlier this year, Dumas also broke the world auction record for a living female artist — when her painting Miss January sold for thirteen-point-six million US dollars.
