South African endurance runner Julian Karp will make history at the Soweto Marathon on Saturday, 29 November, running his 1,000th official marathon.
Karp began his marathon journey in 1990 and has since completed only officially sanctioned road marathons and ultras, making his record fully verified.
He chose the Soweto Marathon for this milestone, having run the first official race in 1993 and completed 18 more since. The event is known as The People’s Race, symbolising resilience and unity in South Africa.
At 65, Karp continues to inspire the running community, proving dedication and perseverance can turn a personal passion into a historic achievement.
