Hubo Studio shortlisted for three Architizer A+Awards categories

Johannesburg architecture firm Hubo Studio has been shortlisted in three categories at the Architizer A+Awards.
The Norwood-based studio is one of five finalists worldwide for Best Small Firm, while its Redhill Early Learning Centre project , in Sandton, is also up for Best Kindergarten and Best Educational Interior.
Hubo Studio designed the centre with open learning spaces and indoor-outdoor areas aimed at supporting how children learn and explore.
Public voting for the awards closes on 15 May and winners will be annonced in June.

From Gangs to Grace youth scouts head to Kon-Tiki international camp

A youth scouting programme in Eldorado Park, connected to From Gangs to Grace is preparing to send local children to an international camp from 15 to 17 May.
Community members recently supported a fundraiser at Shoprite to help cover transport and accommodation costs for the trip.
The camp encourages teamwork, discipline and creative problem-solving among young participants.
Organisers say the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to keep youth away from gangs and substance abuse through mentorship and structured activities.

Ekurhuleni duo walk 1,400km for skills centre

King Nobevu and Thokozani Tevo are walking 1,400 kilometres from Ekurhuleni to Cape Town to raise funds for the Pariio Community Skills Centre.
The centre trains unemployed people in sewing, carpentry, baking, and welding to support self-employment.
About 70 people are already registered, but funding is needed to buy equipment for training programmes.
The walk has drawn public support along the route as the pair move to complete their journey.
