South Africa is set to host one of the continent’s most anticipated gatherings of entrepreneurs and investors. The Empowa Entrepreneurs funding summit will take place in Bryanston in Johannesburg on the 30th of May. Proffesor of AI at the university of Johannesburg says AI has great potential to transform Africa. Prof. Abejide Ade-Abjola sees it as an opportunity for the continent’s youth to lead innovation. He emphasized the importance of investing in AI training and creating opportunities for young people to solve real-world problems. Initiatives like GRIT Lab Africa and the UJ Innovation Lab are already training students in practical AI skills, with over 2,000 graduates working on impactful projects. With support from Huawei Cloud, Africa is positioned to advance in AI and contribute to global progress.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation plans to spend over $200 billion by 2045, when it will officially close its doors. The foundation aims to speed up efforts to fight global health issues and poverty. Bill Gates, who has pledged to give away most of his wealth, hopes this push will help prevent maternal and infant deaths and lift millions out of poverty. Since 2000, the foundation has already spent over 100 billion dollars on global health and development.
