Breakthrough Settlement Offer for Listeriosis Victims
Story 1

There’s progress at last for victims of the deadly 2017–2018 listeriosis outbreak.
In April, Tiger Brands’ insurer, QBE, made a settlement offer aimed at those who fell ill, families who lost breadwinners, and guardians of affected children.
While the offer doesn’t admit liability, it provides compensation under the Consumer Protection Act.
Legal teams are now reviewing claims, and the Health Department has welcomed the move as a key step in bringing closure to a tragedy that claimed over 200 lives and forced the closure of Enterprise Foods’ Polokwane factory.
