Usizolwethu School receives R2 million for digital learning

Usizolwethu Special Needs School in Gauteng received a R2 million investment to expand digital learning for pupils with intellectual disabilities.
The Vodacom Foundation, with support from the Gauteng Department of Education, provided the funding, which will supply ICT infrastructure, solar-powered connectivity, special needs equipment, renovated learning labs, and a vegetable garden to support nutrition and sustainability.
The investment is helping students with special needs access the tools and opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Midvaal students get financial assistance

44 students will receive financial assistance from the Midvaal Municipality through the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme.
The municipality increased the programme’s budget to R1.105 million, allowing it to fund 44 students, up from 37 last year.
Council approved an additional R305 000 as part of the 2025/2026 Adjusted Capital and Operating Budgets, raising the original allocation of R750 000.
Nedbank also contributed to the fund.
Since its launch in 2024, the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme has disbursed more than R2.6 million to at least 101 students pursuing higher education.

Cableway Charity Challenge in Cape Town

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company will host the Cableway Charity Challenge in Cape Town in May, giving participants a chance to make a difference while taking on the climb.
Climbers will raise funds for conservation, rescue services and youth programmes, supporting organisations such as Wilderness Search and Rescue, Volunteer Wildfire Services, SANParks Honorary Rangers, and the Ubuntu Football Academy.
Organisers hope to raise more than R1.2 million this year, and both individuals and teams—from schools or companies—can take part.
Supporters can also sponsor climbers, helping boost fundraising while cheering on those tackling the mountain for a good cause.

Tiwa Savage Music Foundation officially launched

Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, a new initiative that will help African music creators grow their skills and follow their dreams.
The foundation will bring music education closer to home by partnering with a music college in Nigeria, to conduct the Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Programme, that will run in April.
Over four days, 100 students will get hands-on training in performance, songwriting, music production, and the business of music, guided by experienced mentors.
Speaking at the foundation's launch the artist says the foundation is her way of giving others the same opportunities she received, helping them prepare for the future of music in a technology-driven world:
