Zero Waste initiative launched in Soweto

A Zero Waste to Landfill initiative called Adopt-A-Community has been launched in Soweto.
The programme aims to bring together ward leaders, businesses, waste collectors, community groups and the City of Johannesburg to promote recycling, reduce illegal dumping and improve waste management.
Founder Duduzile Ntuli says the initiative was created to help address persistent illegal dumping sites and encourage responsible waste practices in communities.
The project also introduced the BinPack app, designed to support recycling and promote a circular economy while creating opportunities for local businesses and waste collectors.

Community helps raise funds for new prosthetic legs

A community fundraising effort has helped Miki Jovanovic secure new prosthetic legs ahead of her 30th birthday.
Born with Fibular Hemimelia, a rare condition that led to both her legs being amputated as a child, Jovanovic has relied on prosthetics to remain active and independent.
She launched a campaign to raise R250,000 for new prosthetics, receiving donations from individuals, community groups and supporters across the country.
The final R100,000 was contributed by the Good Morning Angels Fund on Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels programme, helping her reach the goal before her birthday on 26 March.

Residents gathered at Diepsloot Mall for a community imbizo hosted by the Diepsloot Service Providers Forum.
The event brought together organisations including the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority and the Department of Employment and Labour to inform residents about services aimed at tackling unemployment and substance abuse.
Officials explained programmes such as the Employment Services of South Africa system, which helps match jobseekers with vacancies and offers career counselling and skills support.
Residents also received information on free prevention and treatment programmes, as well as training opportunities for young people.
