Disney+ to release songs in sign language for U.S. Deaf History Month
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Disney+ will debut “Disney Animation’s Songs in Sign Language” on 27 April in celebration of National Deaf History Month in the United States.
The project features three musical sequences—The Next Right Thing (Frozen 2), We Don’t Talk About Bruno, and Beyond (Moana 2)—reimagined and animated in American Sign Language.
A team of more than 20 animators worked with Deaf West Theatre performers to choreograph the lyrics into ASL, focusing on concepts and emotion rather than a word-for-word translation.
A behind-the-scenes feature will show how the team created the new animations, highlighting the collaboration between Disney animators, ASL performers, and choreographers.
