The inaugural African Green Hydrogen Summit is underway in Cape Town.

The gathering aims to emphasize the need for African leadership in establishing hydrogen corridors to attract investment and boost intra-African trade.

The independent non-profit economic research institution Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies, says South Africa’s rich endowment of ideal weather conditions for solar and wind-power generation, technological capabilities and access to platinum resources, place the country at an advantage for developing the hydrogen value chain and being a key supplier in the global hydrogen market.

The alliance’s ambition targets 30 to 60 million tons of green hydrogen production by 2050.
President Ramaphosa underscored the role of the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance, which includes Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, and South Africa.
