Soshanguve choir breaks language barriers to reach national finals

A choir of non Afrikaans speaking learners from Lesedi Primary School in Soshanguve has earned another place in the national finals of the ATKV Applous School Choir Competition.
The competition celebrates Afrikaans choral music, and the young singers impressed judges by performing three Afrikaans songs despite Afrikaans not being their home language.
They will compete against some of South Africa's top school choirs in Cape Town from 29 July to 1 August after qualifying for the finals for the second consecutive year.

The 43rd Knysna Oyster Festival has wrapped up after 10 days of sport, food and family entertainment that attracted thousands of visitors to the Garden Route.
The annual event gives the local economy a welcome lift during winter, with restaurants, guesthouses, shops and tourism operators benefiting from increased visitor spending.
Last year's festival generated about R41 million for the local economy and created more than 1 000 temporary jobs, while organisers continue to focus on supporting local businesses, charities and community initiatives.

Love Trust expands Mandela Day into a week of giving

The Love Trust is turning Mandela Day into a week long volunteer drive to support learners at Nokuphila School in Thembisa.
The initiative invites volunteers to help with activities including preparing meals, maintaining vegetable gardens, organising the library, improving learning spaces and taking part in a sports day, helping to strengthen the school's daily operations.
The organisation hopes the programme will encourage more people to invest their time and skills in creating lasting opportunities for young people beyond Mandela Day.
