The South African-made animated film has earned around R1.5 billion at the international box office, ranking second worldwide behind the new Avatar sequel.
The Cape Town-led production brought together over 400 artists from 32 countries.
Cunningham says the film’s success demonstrates South Africa’s ability to coordinate large-scale, globally recognized animation projects:
