South Africa’s Cardio-Oncology Centre of Excellence at Netcare uMhlanga Hospital has had its certification renewed for another three years by the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
The centre protects cancer patients’ hearts during treatment, saving lives and improving care.
Since opening in 2019, Dr Trishun YT Singh and his team have trained clinicians across the country, building local expertise in this field.
The recognition highlights South African skill, teamwork, and innovation in healthcare, giving patients and communities hope.
Netcare uMhlanga Hospital general manager, Thea Janse van Rensburg, has praised Dr Singh and the team for maintaining consistent excellence in such a specialised medical field.

Buffalo City Metro see festive season economic boost

Eastern Cape-Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s economy received a boost during the festive season, with hotel occupancy rising 14% compared to previous years.
Tourists and residents spent an estimated R65 million between 15 December and 2 January.
Recent initiatives, including the expansion of the Port of East London to allow more vessels to dock simultaneously, contributed to the increase.

The South African women’s hockey team has opened its 2026 season with three strong results against Canada in a five-match test series in Pretoria.
South Africa took the first match 5–0, with Olympian Thati Zulu scoring the opener after a decisive pass from Ntsopa Mokoena.

A gold pocket watch worn by Titanic passenger Isidor Straus sold at auction in England for about R45.39 million, setting a new record for Titanic memorabilia.
Straus and his wife Ida famously refused seats on a lifeboat to stay together as the ship sank.
The previous record belonged to a gold watch owned by John Jacob Astor IV, which sold for R30.9-million in April 2024.
