The Kaboentle Women Power and Development project ran its annual Back-to-School campaign in Diepkloof, Soweto, yesterday, offering free stationery, haircuts and styling to learners.
The two-day programme aims to help children prepare for the new academic year and improve their readiness for school.
Project coordinator Ntokozo Zwane says community members and local businesses supported the first day of activities, enabling the organisation to serve more learners.
The group plans to continue similar community upliftment initiatives and is encouraging more businesses to take part.

Buffalo City Metro see festive season economic boost

Eastern Cape-Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s economy received a boost during the festive season, with hotel occupancy rising 14% compared to previous years.
Tourists and residents spent an estimated R65 million between 15 December and 2 January.
Recent initiatives, including the expansion of the Port of East London to allow more vessels to dock simultaneously, contributed to the increase.
Executive Mayor Princess Faku welcomed the growth, noting that strategic investments and improved infrastructure are driving economic activity across the Metro:
